Scuba Diving Belize
Scuba Diving Belize - www.travelbelize.orgBelize located on the Caribbean coast nestled between Mexico and Guatemala offers an intriguing mix of tropical forests rich with wildlife, majestic mountains, mysterious Maya temples, and diving experiences beyond comparison. In a single day you can visit a tropical forest and dive the longest barrier reef in the Western Hemisphere. The three main options when deciding how to experience the underwater world of Belize are resorts, liveaboard boats or charters. If you would like to something a little different, try snorkeling or diving near a mangrove colored island "the nursery of the sea" and are sure to find tiny barracuda, snapper and other fish whose parents you might have seen in deeper water.

Dive Sites
Belize's barrier reef was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1996. The reef spans the coastline for 185 miles and offers dive sites inside and outside of the reef. Spur and Grove formations - narrow canyons of corals are great for spotting grouper and the occasionally eel. Inside the reef, patch reefs are covered with hundreds of brightly colored fish and coral species. There are three atolls located off Belize, Turneffe, Glover's Reef and Lighthouse Reef with abundant healthy coral formations, colorful reefs and large sponges. Water visibility commonly reaches 100+ feet; water temperature hovers around 80 degrees Fahrenheit; and the barrier reef makes for calm water most of the year.
