Whale Shark Baja - Cortez clubThe peninsula of Baja California is 781 miles long and the average width is 56 miles, which makes it one of largest peninsulas in the world. Along the west coast is the Pacific Ocean and on the east is the Sea of Cortez. The water is not as clear or as warm as in the Caribbean, but the big attraction for divers is the large marine life such as whale sharks, manta rays, sea lions, hammerhead sharks, gray whales and more. The main diving locations are are found in Mulege, Loreto, La Paz, Cabo Pulmo and Los Cabos. The summer months offer the best visibility (70-90ft / 21-27m) and the water temperatures are around 85 Fahrenheit / 29 Celsius.

Dive Sites
Some 250 miles south of Cabo the Socorro (also known as Isla Revillagigedo) and San Benedicto Islands offer some of the best diving. Mantas, wahoo, turtles, whales, schools of yellow fin tuna, many varieties of sharks, along with a myriad of other species can be observed. November through May is the best time to dive the Socorro and San Benedicto Islands.

The Sea of Cortez is not only home to some amazing marine life (hammerhead sharks, whale sharks, dolphins, giant manta rays, gray & blue whales) but there are several great wreck dives to be found here too.
